Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most services are covered under MSP or the government's 'Medical Service Plan'. This includes services such as IUD (intrauterine device) and Nexplanon implant insertions and removal. We also accept other government funded healthcare plans like Blue cross for refugee care.

Cosmetic services are not covered by MSP.

  • Sure! If you are out of province our team can help you figure out if the service you require is covered. For patients with no govenrment coverage, we offer services as private pay fees specific for the service.

  • No referrals needed. However if you choose to request a referral, please ask your provider to send us any prior labs or investigations that you have done. This could help with expediting your care.

  • Even if you got the device prescribed by another provider or pharmacist, we will need to have a consultation with you before insertion. This process helps to give us enough time with you to ensure you are getting the best care options specific to your needs. It also provides opportunity for discussion to help you understand what to expect during and after insertion. This helps to alleviate anxiety, thoroughly address any concerns, and clarify any misconceptions around the process of getting a device.

    Getting Started with Prenatal Care

Connecting with a healthcare provider early in your pregnancy is one of the best ways to ensure a healthy outcome for you and your baby—especially if you have existing health conditions or had complications in a previous pregnancy. Early prenatal care can make a big difference, so it’s important to reach out as soon as you can.

    Already have a family doctor?
Contact them to begin your prenatal care. They can guide you through the first steps, including ordering important tests like bloodwork and an early ultrasound (usually done between 7 and 13 weeks). These help confirm your due date and check on your overall health.

    Don’t have a regular doctor?
You can visit a walk-in clinic to get started. The doctor there can support your early pregnancy care and arrange the necessary tests.

If your current doctor doesn’t provide delivery care, they will refer you to a maternity clinic or provider who does. These specialists will take over your care later in your pregnancy and assist with your delivery.

    Considering a midwife?
Midwives are another great option for prenatal and delivery care—and you don’t need a referral to see one. Learn more in the section below: “Who is a midwife?”

  • Midwives are licensed healthcare professionals who specialize in supporting healthy, low-risk pregnancies. They provide comprehensive care throughout your pregnancy—from early prenatal visits, through labour and delivery, and up to 6–8 weeks after birth.

Midwives offer the option to give birth either in a hospital or at home, depending on your preferences and medical needs.

Choosing midwifery care ensures you receive personalized, high-quality support—just like you would with a physician. This also helps physicians focus on patients with more complex or high-risk needs. Midwives are trained and licensed through a professional regulatory college and know when to consult with or transfer care to a physician if needed.

Many people have safe, healthy pregnancies and births under the care of a midwife.

    No referral is needed.

  • Start with Prenatal Vitamins

Begin taking a daily prenatal vitamin with folic acid as soon as possible—even before your first appointment. Folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects and supports your baby’s early development. If you're not sure which vitamin to choose, a pharmacist can help you find the right option.
